This is my first smart doorbell and I was admittedly a bit anxious about the setup, but it was actually really easy. I didn’t need to drill to insert the mounting brackets - was just able to use the screws directly into the wooden frame of my door and it stayed secure. It lit up right away going off the existing doorbell wiring from my home. The Aqara Home app was a pretty straightforward step-by-step setup process to get everything online and updated. It also support 5GHz WiFi out of the box, so didn’t need to force my mesh network to 2.4GHz or anything like that.
Feature wise, it ticked all the boxes for me which is why I went with this one. The biggest reason is that it has true Apple HomeKit integration with HomeKit Secure Video (so I won’t feel the need to add yet another subscription to my growing list of subscription services), resolution greater than 1080p, facial recognition is a plus.
So far it has been reliable. Was able to define the “alert area” in Apple Home and haven’t gotten any false alerts. Also haven’t gotten any “overheating” alerts so far (we’ve had 90-100°F days). Firmware was easy to update in the Aqara Home app, but did have some hiccups adding to Apple Home initially - might have just been my network or a timing issue with the hub still booting up after the update, as it did eventually work after retrying a few times.
Only minor gripe is that it doesn’t work with an existing chime and the Aqara chime hub is mandatory/needs to be placed close to the doorbell for a strong signal. Not a big deal though - the chime is loud and you can adjust the volume and tone with three default options or your own custom sounds.
Great so far! Set up was a bit confusing but everything flowed once it connected. Also works well with HomeKit which is exactly what I was looking for. Video quality is good, motion detection is quick, had to set it to 2 second delay or else it sends notifications with the slightest movement. The fact that it has the option to either use the adhesive or screws is a plus. Only cons are it’s a bit on the bulkier side, also the amount of batteries it uses. Haven’t used this much AA batteries in one device since the Game Gear or those remote control cars from Radio Shack! Other than that over it’s pretty decent.
I got the Aqara G410 mainly for its sharp 2K camera and native HomeKit Secure Video support, and so far it’s lived up to expectations in those areas. The video is crisp and detailed, with a decent field of view, and two-way audio works well. Integration with Apple Home, Alexa, Google Assistant, and Home Assistant is solid; everything connected without much hassle.
The standout feature is the built-in Matter and Zigbee hub. You don’t need an extra bridge to connect other Aqara devices, which simplifies things if you're building around their ecosystem. That said, unless you already have other Aqara gear, the built-in hub won’t add much on its own.
Motion detection is more accurate than with basic PIR sensors thanks to mmWave, but if you're using Apple HomeKit exclusively, you're still limited by its pixel-based detection. For more advanced automation, you'll need to run through the Aqara app. The battery life is mediocre.
Installation was straightforward, though the security screw placement could be an issue depending on where you mount it. Also worth noting: HDR is missing, so bright skies tend to blow out, and there's no free Aqara cloud storage anymore—just local (via microSD) or iCloud.
Still, for a HomeKit-compatible doorbell with great image quality and solid smart home integration, the G410 is a compelling pick, especially if you get it at a discount. Just don’t expect miracles from the mmWave sensor unless you go all-in on Aqara’s platform.
I debated whether to upgrade from the G4 video doorbell. It was working well, but I wanted a wider viewing angle and decided to give the 410 a try. I have no regrets! The enhancement to the viewing angles along with the higher resolution are amazing and well worth the cost. Bonus, this unit slid right into the older model’s mounting bracket so my installation was super simple. Running on the electrical for the builder doorbell with no issues. Connection to HomeKit was seamless and easy. Now, the feature I didn’t know I needed… presence sensor to detect when someone is approaching or lingering at the door area. Face detection works well, too. I don’t think you will regret upgrading from the G4 OR buying the G410 as your video doorbell.
Facile installazione dell'app e buona qualità audio/video.
